| The City of Evanston The City of Evanston is the first town directly north of Chicago right on Lake Michigan. It's population is about 74,000 people. There are over 40 restaurants and every kind of shopping you can imagine. It has in excess of 75 parks including a beautiful network of lakefront walking and biking paths. First time visitors to Evanston are always impressed by what a fun and vibrant town it really is. Getting There Driving from Chicago to Evanston is easy by car. Just take Lake Shore Drive headed north to Sheridan and in 25 minutes you are there. If you don't feel like driving, try taking the Metra. The train schedule can be found at http://www.metrarail.com . Evanston has three train stations, one at Main Street, one at Davis Street (downtown) and one at Central Street. It takes about 25 minutes to get to Evanston from downtown. If you'd prefer to take the "L" (www.transitchicago.com) , there are lots of stops from South Street, Main Street, Dempster, Davis, Foster, and Central Street. You can take the EL to see the Cubs play ball or to take a flight out of Midway airport. If these methods of transportation aren't enough, then consider the Pace bus system (www.pacebus.com) . Taxis are available by calling 303 Taxi (847-256-0303), or best of all, just walk. There are sidewalks everywhere and it is a preferred method of transportation by many locals. |
